Michael Alder

    California Litigator, Plaintiff's Trial Lawyer

Alder recognized for work in mental hospital abuse and negelct lawsuit

"My job is to restore people's faith in our jury system. Our country's founding fathers devised a way to protect the little guy from big business or anyone else who was in a position of power and had the ability to exploit it, and wrote that into our Constitution. They realized that the right to a trial by a jury of twelve objective people who heard all the facts would result in justice being served the vast majority of the time, and would guarantee average Americans who are wronged a fighting chance against the big guys. Runaway juries are not this country's problem right now - runaway corporations and insurance companies who leave our citizens high and dry, while their executives get rich in the process, are our current nightmare. My job is to educate people about that fact, just as the insurance companies and big corporations are spending tens of millions of dollars to distribute misinformation about our justice system."

A long-time board member of the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), Mr. Alder is now a leader of both organizations. He is currently on the CAALA Executive Committee serving as First Vice President and will be President of that organization in 2012. Mr. Alder has given nationwide seminars on litigation and published multiple articles on litigation strategy and practice. He has been a speaker at multiple continuing education seminars and regularly speaks at CAALA's annual Las Vegas convention on topics ranging from advanced trial skills to the use of technology in the courtroom.

Mr. Alder grew up in southern Louisiana, attending Louisiana State University (LSU) and graduating from LSU Law School in 1992. After clerking for The Hon. Lenore Prather, Presiding Justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court, he began his career at the Los Angeles offices of the late David M. Harney, a legendary California trial lawyer. He then moved on to work for and be mentored by Michael J. Piuze, one of the best trial lawyers in the country.

Mr. Alder is a founder of Trial Lawyers Charities, a charity begun by lawyers in Los Angeles dedicated to helping people in the community with financial or legal needs, and a founder of the Alder Family Foundation, which is devoted to assisting students in obtaining quality education based on merit, regardless of their ability to pay.
