Jones v. Medlen $4 Million for Wrongful Death Teenage Girl Killed in Car Crash, Lawyer Proves "Who-dunnit" On a March 2000 evening, 18 year-old Brandon Davis was driving 16-year old Lisa Marie Jones on Soledad Canyon Road. A maroon car pulled out in front of Davis' truck, causing him to take evasive action to avoid impact. Davis' truck sucessfully avoided the maroon car, but hit the center median and flipped, causing Lisa Marie Jones to sustain fatal injuries. Defendant Daniel Medlen denied having been in the car that caused the accident, although a witness had placed him at the scene and his brother owned a maroon Ford Escort that fit several witnesses' descriptions. Medlen's insurance company, Safeco, refused Plaintiffs' demands for the $25,000 policy limit. Under fierce cross-examination by Mr. Alder, Daniel Medlen gave startling testimony that he had precously lied under oath, say that he "didn't want to help [the Plaintiffs]." The Jury found Defendant Medlen at fault and awarded $4,000,000 to Jones' parents. |
